The album took its name from the street in Woking where Weller grew up. Named after the street where he grew up, Stanley Road could be seen as a return to Paul Weller 's roots, yet his roots were in the Who and the Kinks, not in Traffic. In 1998 Q magazine readers voted it the 46th greatest album of all time. This pressing is a good one and fairly inexpensive considering that a lot of his early solo work is out of print on vinyl. To me, it's his defining moment as an artist. It really is a fantastic record without a misstep, following hot on the heels of the successful “Wild Wood”.
