The primary focus of the unit is unconventional warfare combat in ArmA 3 utilizing real life tactics, techniques, protocols, and communication.. The units originally had separate lineages, but were then consolidated in 1986. Following the successful use of Ranger battalions in Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, the Department of the Army ordered the activation of the 3rd Ranger Battalion.
