The one noticeable exception is Pluto and its moon, Charon. Charon is about half the diameter of Pluto and is massive enough (nearly one eighth of the mass of Pluto) that the system's barycenter lies between them, approximately 960 km above Pluto's surface. Kerberos was discovered in 2011, and Styx was found in 2012, both by Hubble Space Telescope. Following the 2005 discovery of two other natural satellites of Pluto (Nix and Hydra), Charon may also be referred to as Pluto I. The largest of these five, Titania, is 1,578 km in diameter and the eighth-largest moon in the Solar System, and about one-twentieth the mass of the Moon.
Saturn’s largest moon is named Titan, it is the only moon known to have a dense atmosphere. Ganymede is the largest moon in the Solar System.

This pair orbits the Sun in a planetary orbit which crosses the orbit of Neptune.

It was discovered in 1978 at the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., using photographic plates taken at the United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station (NOFS). It was known that it had one large moon named Charon, which was about half of Pluto's size, and that Pluto was tilted 122.5 degrees on its axis, which basically meant that it was rotating on its head. Add to this picture two moon-size bodies: Pluto, and Pluto's own large moon Charon. This in itself is an extraordinary situation, since crossing orbits are usually unstable (i.e. Charon, also known as (134340) Pluto I, is the largest of the five known natural satellites of the dwarf planet Pluto. It has a mean radius of 606 km. This action lists the moon Charon.
These moons were likely created during a giant collision, which scattered these tiny worlds into orbit around Pluto and Charon. Charon may receive consideration because Pluto and Charon are comparable in size and orbit each other, rather than just being a satellite orbiting a planet.

It was known that Pluto had an extreme, elliptical orbit. PLEASE ANSWER ALL OF THEM. Other Moons – Nix, Hydra, Kerberos & Styx Callisto has a similar diameter to the planet Mercury but only one third of its mass. The two bodies orbit around a common point that is proportionally closer to the more massive Pluto. Charon is massive enough compared to Pluto that its mass cannot be ignored. The orbits of the regular moons are nearly coplanar with Uranus's equator, which is tilted 97.77 degrees to its orbit. For the next section of the lab, we will use the Starry Night software to learn about Pluto's largest moon, Charon.. Click the plus sign (+) icon (a gray arrow for Mac) next to Pluto in the Find side pane. Notable Moon – Charon. Pluto has five moons: Charon, Styx, Nix, Kerberos and Hydra, with Charon being the closest to Pluto and Hydra the most distant. These four moons rotate chaotically on their axes. Most important for Charon's case as a dwarf planet is that the centre of gravity about which Charon orbits is not inside of the system primary, Pluto.

Charon, discovered in 1978 at the United States Naval Observatory Flagstaff Station, is the largest satellite of the dwarf planet Pluto. In Greek mythology and Roman mythology, Charon or Kharon (/ ˈ k ɛər ɒ n,-ən /; Greek Χάρων) is a psychopomp, the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead. Neptune’s largest moon, Triton, is similar in size to Earth’s moon. The New Horizons mission is scheduled to visit Charon and Pluto in July 2015.
