a. Anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium above the acetabulum.

The rectus femoris originates from the anterior inferior iliac spine.

Innervation.

Action. Insertion. a. Quadriceps tendon to base of patella and onto tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament.

This muscle is also used to flex the thigh. Along with the other muscles of the quadriceps femoris the rectus femoris inserts onto the tibial tuberosity.

ORIGIN Straight head: anterior inferior iliac spine.

Insertion (distal attachment). A muscle in the quadriceps, the rectus femoris muscle is attached to the hip and helps to extend or raise the knee.
