There are two main routes to the mountain, the easiest is longer but avoids having to climb up and over a large steep mountain pass. Lots of people were venturing into the Winds that day. That always disappointed me because I thought the Grand should be the highest. From the pass the trail descends through meadows and then a lakes basin to the junction with the Seneca Lake trail above Little Seneca Lake. Titcomb Basin is only about 1,300 feet higher so the net elevation gain for our 17-mile approach was pretty modest.
