Assistant Chief Slouchick holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University, he is also a graduate of the 240th session of the F.B.I Nation Academy, and the Georgia association of Chiefs of Police Command College. He became Assistant Chief in 2017 after serving as the Major of Investigative Services.
As of April 6, 2020 the Columbus Police Department intends to use its allotment of the Coronavirus Emergency Funding Program FY 2020 to purchase mobile purifiers, office air cubes, surface/air disinfectants and two(2) drones equipped with cameras to assist the City of Columbus in preventing, preparing for and responding to the Coronavirus. In a packed city hearing room Tuesday morning, Thomas Quinlan officially was introduced as the 34th chief of the Columbus Division of Police. When Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs announced her retirement in December, Ginther seized the opportunity to try something new: open up the search for her replacement to candidates outside the city.
“The people of Columbus deserve the best and the brightest, whether he or she may be here within the division of police or someplace else,” Ginther says.
Saying he wants to make sure “everyone’s voices are being heard,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther is looking to residents for input about hiring the next chief of the Columbus Division of Police. On the fifth day of protesting in downtown Columbus, Police Chief Thomas Quinlan and other officers were among the crowd speaking and walking with protesters.
